How do I train this skill?

Recommended activities for Inscription at each skill range.

How It Works

Write magical scrolls and books, including Runebooks and the five PvM Codices. Trained Inscription also adds supplemental damage to eligible direct PvP Magery spells without requiring a casting scroll, while supported buffs and wards last longer.

Skill summary, training and related paths
Power Scroll and cap information

Maximum skill: 120 with a matching Power Scroll. It starts with a 100 cap. Scrolls unlock 105, 110, 115 or 120; you still train the points and keep the same shared total of 720.

Understanding effective skill

Which value counts? Eligible direct PvP Magery spells gain up to +10% from trained Inscription through 100. Power Scroll tiers add flat damage, not another 10% multiplier. Flame Strike uses a separate formula.

PvP

Trained Inscription adds up to +10% to eligible direct Magery spells at 100; Power Scroll tiers add +1/+2/+3/+4 flat damage at 105/110/115/120. Flame Strike instead uses its own flat formula, reaching +6 at 120. Tracking gives no spell bonus. Supported buffs and wards keep their 10-minute duration floor at effective 100.

PvM

Supported AOS Magery damage paths retain the native Inscription contribution. It is one spell-damage component, not a bonus to every spell or to the separate Arcanism Codex. Crafting PvM Codices is another use of this skill.

Requirements

The extra PvP damage tiers require trained 105/110/115/120 and the matching Power Scroll cap. Buff duration and supported native PvM spell damage still use effective Inscription up to 100; crafting continues on its existing curve.

How to use it, step by step

If a step says to use a skill, open your character window, choose Skills and use the button beside that skill. If it says to use a tool, double-click the tool in your backpack. Passive benefits work automatically.

  1. Carry a scribe’s pen, blank scrolls and the other ingredients shown by the recipe when crafting.
  2. Choose any Magery scroll your Inscription skill can attempt. You do not need to know the spell or carry a spellbook; the recipe still needs its listed mana and materials.
  3. For the passive combat benefits, cast eligible Magery spells or supported buffs normally. No casting scroll or extra Inscription button is needed for the PvP damage bonus.

What changes as your skill rises

Read the conditions above each table. A percentage may describe a chance, a damage component or a multiplier: those are different things. The other values stay fixed unless the table says otherwise.

What the skill affects: Eligible direct PvP Magery spells gain up to +10% from trained Inscription through 100. Power Scroll tiers add flat damage, not another 10% multiplier. Flame Strike uses a separate formula.

Exact damage comparisons and conditions

Eligible direct PvP spell example

Eligible spells are Magic Arrow, Harm, Fireball, Lightning, Mind Blast, Energy Bolt, Explosion, Flame Strike, Chain Lightning and Meteor Swarm. A normal spellbook cast qualifies without a casting scroll. The percentage applies to ordinary eligible damage first, then the flat amount is added. Flame Strike uses only its separate flat addition.

Supported Magery buff duration floor

Tracking does not increase spell damage. Native PvM AOS spell contribution and buff duration remain capped at effective Inscription 100.

100–120 scaling: what you gain

100–120 scaling: what you gain

Only the skill in the first column changes unless the table says otherwise. Each extra trained point still uses one point from your shared total of 720.

Eligible direct PvP spells

A normal spellbook cast qualifies. At 105–120, each Power Scroll threshold adds flat damage after the percentage step. Flame Strike uses its separate flat formula.

Trained InscriptionEligible direct spellFlame Strike flat addition
100+10%+2
105+10% and +1 flat+3
110+10% and +2 flat+4
115+10% and +3 flat+5
120+10% and +4 flat+6

Tracking gives no spell damage. Supported buff duration and native PvM spell contribution keep their 100-skill limits. Inscription is not a universal +20% multiplier.

Examples in play

Easy examples

Scribing Fireball without a spellbook

Fireball is a third-circle scroll. With enough Inscription skill, a scribe’s pen, 9 mana, one Black Pearl and one Blank Scroll, you can attempt it even if Fireball is not in your spellbook.

Spell pressure without a casting scroll

At Inscription 100, an eligible direct PvP Magery spell gains +10%. At 120, it gains the same +10% and +4 flat damage. Flame Strike instead uses its separate flat formula and gains +6 at 120. A normal spellbook cast qualifies.

Making a Runebook

At Inscription 90, use 20 Blank Scrolls and 10 Arcane Essence.

A longer protective effect

At effective Inscription 100, a supported buff or ward has a 10-minute duration floor.

Making a Codex

At Inscription 100, a PvM Codex recipe uses 100 Blank Scrolls and 20 Arcane Essence. A Normal book starts at Rank 1 and an Exceptional book at Rank 2; both are Blessed. A Scribe sells a Blessed Rank 1 copy for 2,500 gold.

Skills that work with it

Advanced notes

Things to remember

  • A completed book is not a fully levelled Rank 5 book.
  • Inscription is not a universal +20% spell multiplier.
  • Tracking does not increase spells.
  • Buff duration and native PvM spell contribution stop scaling at effective Inscription 100.
Training and Skill Progression

TRAINING / SKILL PROGRESSION

One recommended activity for each skill range, with a short note on what you need.

Before you start: set Inscription to Up and leave room under the shared 720-point total. Set an unwanted skill to Down if the total is full.

NPC training: when the trainer listed for this skill offers a lesson, the fixed price is 300 gold and the lesson can reach 50.0 if both the individual and total caps have room.

Training area: supported Academy actions receive 5× normal gain through 80.0. An action still needs to run a real skill check; the Academy bonus cannot make an automatic or blocked action train.

Beyond 100: consume the matching 105, 110, 115 or 120 Power Scroll first. A scroll raises only the individual cap; it grants no trained points and does not increase the shared 720-point total.

Recommended training

Repeat the single activity listed for your level. These are practical training choices; the ranges are recommendations, not new unlock requirements.

110.7–120.0Energy Vortex Scroll3 reagents + 1 Blank Scroll; 50 mana. Recipe check: 75–125.

A failed craft can still give a gain check. Change recipe before its check becomes automatic; bonuses can make displayed success reach 100% earlier. Unlock the matching Power Scroll before training above your cap.

Crafting success and skill gain are separate checks; use a recipe whose skill window still includes your current value.

All 64 Magery scroll recipes can be attempted without knowing the spell or carrying a spellbook. Skill, mana, a scribe’s pen, reagents and a Blank Scroll still apply.

Rules and numbers

An eligible direct PvP spell gains up to +10% from trained Inscription through 100, then +1/+2/+3/+4 flat damage at 105/110/115/120. Flame Strike instead gains up to +6 flat damage at 120. Tracking does not raise spell damage. Supported buffs and wards gain six seconds of minimum duration per effective Inscription point, capped at 100. Native PvM Magery contribution also stops at 100. A Runebook requires Inscription 90, 20 Blank Scrolls and 10 Arcane Essence; PvM Codex recipes require Inscription 100 and their listed materials.
