How It Works

Collect ore from suitable rocks and caves. Ore can be smelted into ingots for metal crafting.

Skill summary, training and related paths
Power Scroll and cap information

Maximum skill: 120 with a matching Power Scroll. It starts with a 100 cap. Scrolls unlock 105, 110, 115 or 120; you still train the points and keep the same shared total of 720.

Understanding effective skill

Which value counts? Mining works while mounted. Ore eligibility checks BASE Mining, while the actual harvest-success check uses effective Mining; a temporary skill bonus does not replace an ore’s base-skill requirement.

How to use it, step by step

If a step says to use a skill, open your character window, choose Skills and use the button beside that skill. If it says to use a tool, double-click the tool in your backpack. Passive benefits work automatically.

  1. Carry a pickaxe or another mining tool.
  2. Double-click it and select a valid rock face or cave tile. Mining works while mounted.
  3. Keep extracting while the vein reports usable ore, then move when it is exhausted and smelt your ore at an appropriate forge.

What changes as your skill rises

Read the conditions above each table. A percentage may describe a chance, a damage component or a multiplier: those are different things. The other values stay fixed unless the table says otherwise.

What the skill affects: Mining works while mounted. Ore eligibility checks BASE Mining, while the actual harvest-success check uses effective Mining; a temporary skill bonus does not replace an ore’s base-skill requirement.

Detailed formulas and comparison tables

Ore-bank capacity and recovery

An ore bank is shared by every valid mountain or cave tile inside its local area. Recovery starts when the first charge is spent and restores the complete bank at once.

RuleLive value
Bank area8×8 tiles
Starting capacity8–15 charges
Normal success2 ore; spends 1 charge
RecoveryRandom 10–20 minutes
Mounted useAllowed
Maximum range2 tiles

Gathering opportunities from 80 skill

Only one opportunity can resolve on a successful strike. Skill 100/110/120 multiplies these base chances by 1.15/1.30/1.50.

OpportunityBase chanceResult
Rich pocket2%4 ore instead of 2
Deeper vein0.5%Adds 3–5 charges, up to 5 above the original maximum
Perfect extraction1%Produces 2 ore without spending a charge
Rock encounter0.25%May disturb a temporary Earth Elemental outside guarded areas and houses

Sand and stone

These use the normal Mining tool but have their own requirements.

ResourceLive rule
SandRequires base Mining 100 and the learned Sand Mining ability; 8×8 bank, 6–12 charges, 1 sand per success, 10–20 minute recovery
GraniteRequires base Mining 100, learned Stone Mining and the stone toggle; 10% of eligible ore successes produce matching granite instead

Ore progression from 0 to 120 Mining

These values unlock the ability to extract a material when the selected vein contains it. They do not increase the probability of finding that vein.

Renewable vein feedback

The same local vein reports how much ore remains.

Message stageMeaning
RichA strong section of the vein remains
WeakeningThe vein is beginning to weaken
DepletedOnly traces remain
ExhaustedMove to another vein while this bank recovers

Repeated failed harvest checks receive hidden streak protection from skill 50 onward; a success resets it. Gathering opportunities unlock at skill 80. Higher trained skill improves success and their frequency modestly but never increases rare-vein selection. Skill 100–120 adds no material beyond Valorite; smelting and crafting remain separate actions.

100–120 scaling: what you gain

100–120 scaling: what you gain

Only the skill in the first column changes unless the table says otherwise. Each extra trained point still uses one point from your shared total of 720.

Extracting selected Valorite

The vein has already selected Valorite, base requirement 99 met. This is the 59–139 harvest-success check, not the chance of finding Valorite.

MiningSuccess chance
10051.25%
11063.75%
12076.25%

Gathering opportunities begin at 80 and improve modestly at 100, 110 and 120. Skill 120 does not create a rarer ore tier or multiply the chance of finding a rare vein. Smelting and crafting are separate actions.

Examples in play

Easy examples

Ore is not an ingot yet

You mine a pile of ore. A smithing recipe asks for ingots, so you must smelt the ore first. Mining the material and crafting the final item are separate actions.

Skills that work with it

Advanced notes

Things to remember

  • An 8×8 ore bank begins with 8–15 charges. A normal success produces 2 ore and spends one charge; the whole bank refills 10–20 minutes after its first spent charge.
  • The location’s vein type and your skill affect what you can obtain.
  • At 80 skill you begin unlocking occasional gathering opportunities; higher trained skill improves them modestly but does not make rare veins more common.
  • Mining does not automatically train Blacksmithy or guarantee every smelting attempt.
Training and Skill Progression

TRAINING / SKILL PROGRESSION

One recommended activity for each skill range, with a short note on what you need.

Before you start: set Mining to Up and leave room under the shared 720-point total. Set an unwanted skill to Down if the total is full.

NPC training: when the trainer listed for this skill offers a lesson, the fixed price is 300 gold and the lesson can reach 50.0 if both the individual and total caps have room.

Training area: supported Academy actions receive 5× normal gain through 80.0. An action still needs to run a real skill check; the Academy bonus cannot make an automatic or blocked action train.

Beyond 100: consume the matching 105, 110, 115 or 120 Power Scroll first. A scroll raises only the individual cap; it grants no trained points and does not increase the shared 720-point total.

Recommended training

Repeat the single activity listed for your level. These are practical training choices; the ranges are recommendations, not new unlock requirements.

Your skillWhat to repeatQuick note
0.0–50.0Miner lessonOptional NPC lesson; 300 gold when offered and room under your caps.
50.0–65.0Mine IronUse a pickaxe or shovel on an eligible vein.
65.0–85.0Mine Dull CopperUse a pickaxe or shovel on an eligible vein.
85.0–100.0Mine GoldUse a pickaxe or shovel on an eligible vein.

Resource unlock requirements are distinct from check minima. Ordinary tool, vein, region and depletion rules still apply.

Rules and numbers

Each 8×8 ore bank starts with 8–15 charges. A normal success produces 2 ore and spends one charge; recovery fully restores the bank 10–20 minutes after its first spent charge. Mining while mounted is supported. From skill 80, successful strikes can occasionally yield extra ore, uncover a deeper section, preserve a charge or disturb something beneath the rock. Higher trained skill improves these opportunities modestly but never changes which ore vein is selected. Smelting and crafting remain separate checks.

Listed amounts describe the stated conditions. Equipment, target rules, damage, healing limits and other effects can change the final result. An example of a chance is never a promise of the same outcome on every attempt.
