ALPHA TESTING

TREASURE HUNT LOOP

One map, one explorer, one guarded cache

The old RunUO Treasure Maps no longer enter the game. Every current Treasure Map uses a unique server identity and the same real map art, coloured by rarity.

1

Find a map

An eligible PvM kill first rolls whether a map drops. Only a successful drop makes a second roll for rarity, using the creature’s Ironveil rank.

2

Decode it

Meet the tier's Cartography requirement. Decoding binds the hunt to you; only one hunt may be active at a time. Decoding does not train Cartography.

3

Explore

Follow the exact pin, surveys or landmark clues. The hidden coordinates are never printed in the interface.

4

Defeat the guardians

The chest remains sealed through every wave. Lockpicking and Remove Trap begin after the final wave.

FIVE RARITIES

Each rarity changes the hunt

Higher-tier maps require more Cartography, replace the simple pin with surveys or clues, and lead to stronger guardian encounters.

Legendary maps are assembled from three different valid Legendary Treasure Map Fragments. Bosses and World Bosses can also drop Common or Uncommon maps; their rank changes the rarity weights rather than enforcing a minimum tier.

WHERE MAPS DROP

Treasure Maps drop from PvM monsters

Eligible monsters can carry a Treasure Map when they die. Drop chance uses the creature's threat and reward health budget. After a successful drop, a separate rarity roll uses its Ironveil rank.

MapWhere to find it
CommonEligible ordinary PvM creatures; most frequent among lower-threat map results.
UncommonEligible ordinary PvM creatures, with better access from stronger enemies.
RareA possible result for any eligible rank; stronger ranks give it more weight.
EpicA possible result for any eligible rank, with higher weight in stronger encounters.
LegendaryA successful rarity roll can award a Legendary Treasure Map Fragment. Combine three different valid fragments to assemble the map.

Roll 1 · does a map drop?

The final map drop probability is now three times its previous value. These examples use standard creature stats and the current server settings; saved or custom variants can differ. The percentage is per eligible kill, not per party member.

Standard creatureMap drop chanceAverage eligible kills per drop
Dragon7.86–8.04%About 12–13
Balron10.92–11.28%About 9

These are probabilities, not guaranteed drops after a fixed number of kills. Ancient Treasure Keys use a separate system and their chances have not changed.

Roll 2 · which rarity?

The percentages below apply only after Roll 1 succeeds. Each row sums to 100%; they are not additional drop chances.

Commission: the map owner selects an undecoded map and a nearby cartographer. The assisting player must explicitly accept before decoding, and both names remain recorded on the finished hunt.

Fusion: combine three undecoded maps of the same tier with five Blank Maps. Base success is 55% Common→Uncommon, 40% Uncommon→Rare and 25% Rare→Epic, plus 0.3 percentage points per Cartography point above the source tier's decode requirement.
